  • FREE Screening of ‘Without Water’ together with a celebration of life for Water Activist Monty Bengochia Oct. 5 in Lone Pine

    Join the Keep Long Valley Green Coalition (of which Friends of the Inyo is a leading member) Wednesday evening, October 5, at 6:30 p.m., for a FREE screening of the documentary film Without Water, which features impassioned comments from long-time Eastern Sierra Water Activist Monty Bengochia, who recently passed away. The screening will also be part of a Celebration of Life to honor Monty. The screening/life celebration will take place at the Museum of Western Film History, 701 S. Main Street, in Lone Pine. No RSVP is required.

    The November election is drawing closer and it is good for voters to make informed choices as they prepare to case their ballots.  INYO350 and Friends of the Inyo are partnering to sponsor a Candidate Forum for the District 1 Inyo County Supervisor’s race on Wednesday, October 12. The event will start at 6:00 PM at the Cerro Coso Community College, Bishop Campus, at 4090 W. Line Street.   • Buttermilk Rock Collection: Volunteers Needed

    Buttermilk Parking Lot

    In anticipation of this weekend's volunteer event in the Buttermilks, we are looking for some volunteers to help collect rocks along Buttermilk Rd. Meet at the Buttermilks main parking lot at 9:30 AM Friday, November 11. We will work until noon-ish. Please RSVP in the sign up form below. Bring sunscreen, closed-toed shoes, hat, and water and snacks for a morning of work. We'll provide the gloves, tools, and all materials.   • American Alpine Club’s Bishop Craggin’ Classic Stewardship Event

    Join Friends of the Inyo, the American Alpine Club, Inyo National Forest, Bureau of Land Management, the Eastern Sierra Interpretive Association, and Bishop Area Climbers Coalition for a day of giving back to the Buttermilk Boulders and Volcanic Tablelands. Meet at the Bishop Craggin' Classic event headquarters (Black Sheep Coffee parking lot in downtown Bishop) at 8:30am on Sunday, November 13th. We will have breakfast and coffee before we head up to the Buttermilk or Volcanic Tablelands areas for a fun morning of service in your favorite climbing area.   • November 19th Highway Cleanup with Keep Long Valley Green

    Driving through Long Valley on the 395 you might have noticed our new Adopt-A-Highway sign courtesy of local business Sweet Water Hideaway. Now it is time for our first clean up! Join us at 9:00 AM on Saturday, November 19th. Coffee and donuts will be provided. RSVP below. Once you sign up, you will be given the location where everyone will meet for the cleanup. Wear closed-toed shoes and layers, other equipment for the cleanup will be provided.

  • Dec. 4 – ON THE BODIE HILLS: Zoom presentation with Friends of the Inyo’s JORA FOGG and the Range of Light Group 30X30 initiative

    The Bodie Hills lie between the Sierra Nevada and the Great Basin Desert on the California/Nevada border.   Its landscape is both scenic and ecologically diverse with rounded volcanic mountains, aspen groves, meadows and ephemeral lakes. The Bodie Hills provide habitat for a variety of species including the imperiled Bi-State Sage Grouse. The place is also rich in pre and post colonial cultural history.
