  • Trail Work Thursday

    Join Friends of the Inyo’s Trail Ambassadors each week for Trail Work Thursdays. Get out for a morning and help clean up and maintain popular high country trails. Bring sturdy shoes, work clothes, food and water. Gloves, tools, and fun provided. Be prepared to hike as far as 4 miles. We’ll be working on different projects in different locations each week, so it may be a 20 minute drive to the trail head. Meet at 8:30 am at the Mammoth Lake Welcome Center parking lot.

  • Conglomerate Mesa Exploration

      Nestled between the Inyo Mountains and Malpais Mesa Wildernesses, Conglomerate Mesa is a Joshua tree, pinyon- juniper studded roadless landscape which we have been fighting to protect since 2008 when gold mining threats began to emerge there. Once again this high desert gem of public land is under attack from mining interests.   • Fall Highball Stewardship Project

    This year's Fall Highball will feature two stewardship project options: choose between the Buttermilks and the Volcanic Tablelands for a fun morning's work. Meet at 8:30am on Sunday, November 5 in the Black Sheep parking lot. We'll have free breakfast and coffee, and an exclusive prize giveaway just for stewardship volunteers! The event will finish up around 12pm, so there will be plenty of time to climb that afternoon. Don't miss this chance to give back to our treasured local climbing areas.

  • Convict Lake Restoration Planting

    Volunteers are needed to help plant native shrubs near Convict Lake. We’ll be planting bitterbrush in a previously developed area to encourage native revegetation and reduce erosion. This effort will contribute to a healthier ecosystem in the future. So join Friends of the Inyo, Eastern Sierra Interpretive Association, and the Inyo National Forest, and help support our local ecosystems. Please wear close toed shoes and long pants.     'Tis the season...to plant bitterbrush! Volunteers plant bitterbrush near Convict Lake this November. Photo by Wendy Schneider Join Friends of the Inyo, the Fort Independence Indian Reservation, the California Native Plants Society, and the Inyo National Forest for an afternoon of planting native shrubs along the banks of Oak Creek. Oak Creek was devastated by a fire and flood nearly a decade ago. The shrubs we plant will help to stabilize streambank soils, restore ecosystem function, and protect cultural sites within this beautiful riparian area.
