Oak Creek Bitterbrush Planting

December 14, 2017 from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

‘Tis the season…to plant bitterbrush!

Join Friends of the Inyo, the Fort Independence Indian Reservation, the California Native Plants Society, and the Inyo National Forest for an afternoon of planting native shrubs along the banks of Oak Creek.

Oak Creek was devastated by a fire and flood nearly a decade ago. The shrubs we plant will help to stabilize streambank soils, restore ecosystem function, and protect cultural sites within this beautiful riparian area.

We’ll meet at the Mount Whitney Fish Hatchery just north of Independence at 1pm on Thursday, December 14. Gloves and tools will be provided—just bring your own snacks, water, sun protection, and closed-toed shoes.
