  • Citizen Science at the Eureka Dunes

    Death Valley National Park needs citizen science volunteers to help with annual monitoring of endemic plant species at the Eureka Dunes! Surveys will take place April 16-19 and April 23-26. Monitoring will be strenuous, requiring climbing to the tops of tall dunes and hiking up to five miles each day. Volunteers are encouraged to commit to an entire four-day monitoring period if possible. Volunteers will camp with park staff at the Eureka Dunes Campground—bring your own water!     Experience Conglomerate Mesa with Executive Director Wendy Schneider and Policy Director Jora Fogg.  Conglomerate Mesa is a unique roadless landscape under review for exploration by a large mining company.  Friends of the Inyo continues to challenge mining in this area after rising development interest in 2008. Rich History Waves of colonization by Europeans brought the first mining conflicts in this area.  You will see their signature in charcoal flakes made from pinyon pine carried to ore processors at Cerro Gordo. The BLM has given the green light for a mining company to do some exploratory drilling for gold.     Contact Marty Dickes of the Ridgecrest BLM (mdickes AT blm.gov) to sign up for this six-day backpack through the Inyo Mountains Wilderness, from New York Butte to the Reward mine, June 11-16.

  • Mono Basin Trails Day

    What better way to kick off the Mono Basin Bird Chautauqua than to help care for one of the Basin's premier birding locations? For this year's project we will work to repair a portion of the Lundy Canyon Trail that washed out in a mudslide this April. Friends of the Inyo will provide gloves, trash bags, and tools. Please bring sunscreen, wear close-toed shoes and work-appropriate clothing, and be prepared for the elements. No charge; all ages welcome. Meet at the Mono Lake Committee at 9am on Thursday, June 14.

  • Trail Work Thursday — Bishop

    Early summer in Bishop Creek is about as good as it gets. Come on out for Trail Work Thursday on June 21! Meet at the South Lake upper parking lot at 9am. All ages welcome. Bring water and sunscreen and wear long pants and closed-toed shoes. We will provide work gloves and tools.

  • June Lake Trails Day

    Ring in summer in the high country with the ninth annual June Lake Trails Day! We’ll meet you with coffee and breakfast at the June Lake Community Center at 8:30am on Saturday, June 23. After a fun morning of maintaining popular trails and picking up trash and fishing line around the lakes, the event will wrap up at 12:30 with lunch and prize giveaways including a June Mountain Season Pass, Patagonia gear and gift certificates from local businesses.
