The BLM has given the green light for a mining company to do some exploratory drilling for gold. Join Friends of the Inyo for a wildflower walk and talk with botanist Steve McLaughlin at Eastside Bake Shop and McGee Creek Canyon. Perfect for all ages and botany knowledge levels. Who: You! What: A delightful early summer's walk up McGee Creek Canyon with local botanist Steve McLaughlin. Be prepared for mellow hike at elevation, in any weather conditions- bring layers, snacks, water, sun protection, and sturdy shoes. What better way to kick off the Mono Basin Bird Chautauqua than to help care for one of the Basin's premier birding locations? For this year's project we will work to repair a portion of the Lundy Canyon Trail that washed out in a mudslide this April. Friends of the Inyo will provide gloves, trash bags, and tools. Please bring sunscreen, wear close-toed shoes and work-appropriate clothing, and be prepared for the elements. No charge; all ages welcome. Early summer in Bishop Creek is about as good as it gets. Come on out for Trail Work Thursday on June 21! Meet at the South Lake upper parking lot at 9am. All ages welcome. Bring water and sunscreen and wear long pants and closed-toed shoes. We will provide work gloves and tools.

Ring in summer in the high country with the ninth annual June Lake Trails Day! We’ll meet you with coffee and breakfast at the June Lake Community Center at 8:30am on Saturday, June 23. After a fun morning of maintaining popular trails and picking up trash and fishing line around the lakes, the event will wrap up at 12:30 with lunch and prize giveaways including a June Mountain Season Pass, Patagonia gear and gift certificates from local businesses.
