  • Rock Creek Lake Cleanup

    Photo by Sam Roberts.   Summer is nearing its halfway point and Rock Creek Lake needs a little touching up! Join Friends of the Inyo, Rock Creek Lakes Resort, and Tangle Free Waters to clean up trash and fishing line around the lake. Meet at Rock Creek Lakes Resort at 10am on Friday, July 20. All ages welcome. Bring lunch, water, sunscreen, and appropriate footwear for hiking. This page will update with more details closer to the event.

  • Owens River Water Trail Project

    The Owens River Water Trail Project envisions a boater's paradise along a six-mile stretch of the Lower Owens River outside of Lone Pine. With ADA-accessible put-in and take-out points where all people can float, fish, and swim, this scenic Water Trail will be the first of its kind in California. Because the Owens River does not flood annually, islands of muck, tule reeds, and cottonwood logs build up in the channel and obstruct navigation.     Water is perhaps the most important force that has shaped our Eastern Sierra landscape and culture through time. Join Melissa, a Friends of the Inyo Trail Ambassador, as she takes you on a journey through the Sierra's water history and hydrology along the Kearsarge Pass Trail out of Independence. Meet at 10AM at the Kearsarge Pass Trailhead. Bring water, sunscreen, snacks, layers, and appropriate footwear for hiking. The length of the walk will depend on group consensus (but be prepared to be out for at least two hours). The Kearsarge Pass Trail is moderately strenuous.

    Join Lauren, a Friends of the Inyo Trail Ambassador, on an interactive hike up the Treasure Lakes Trail out of South Lake in Bishop.
