Plant Medicine and Wild Edibles of the Eastern Sierra Nevada Interpretive Hike

July 15, 2023 from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Free

Come join Mono Lake District Trail Ambassador, Colt on a hike around Lundy Canyon where you’ll learn about, and potentially find some medicinal-edible flora.

Where: Parking at Lundy Lake Resort and carpooling to the Lundy Canyon Trailhead (parking is limited at the trailhead).

When: Meet at 10 a.m. at the Lundy Lake Resort on July 15th, August 19th, and September 24th

What: Wild plants have been harvested for food and medicine in the Sierra Nevada Mountains since humans inhabited the area. Now, we have the opportunity to learn about this invaluable practice and hopefully carry it into our modern lives. The mix of terrain and plant life in Lundy Canyon is a prime example of ideal foraging habitat in the Sierra, where desert and high mountains meet to showcase some of the most diverse environments in the world. So join us and learn how respectful foraging can enhance your connection to nature, ease your ailments, and provide unrivaled satisfaction on your next outdoor adventure!

Logistics: Our hike will begin at just over 8,000ft above sea level. We will walk for 1.5 miles and gain 500 feet in elevation before returning to the trailhead. The hike should take about 3 hours and total 3 miles round-trip. Trekking poles and bug spray are recommended, as well as cameras and plant guides for recording our finds!

Please Pre-Register by emailing Lindsay@friendsoftheinyo.org since participation is capped.
