Thistle Throw Down in the Volcanic Tablelands

Join us for an evening of stewardship and community at the Happys! We’re taking on invasive Russian Thistle—a thorny menace that crowds out native plants and makes hiking and climbing less fun for everyone. Pulling it in the spring, before it goes to seed, is the most effective way to keep it at bay, and thanks to last year’s throwdowns, we saw a big reduction in growth this season! Read on for details.
Who: Everyone’s welcome—climbers, hikers, and invasive-plant haters alike.
When: Meet at the Happys parking lot near the porta potty. We’ll head up the hill at 5:30 PM and pull thistle until 7:30 PM. Stick around after for refreshments and good company.
What to bring: Closed-toe shoes, long pants, sun protection, water, and snacks! FOI will provide gloves and tools.
