Reserve Your Spot for July 16th 6-8 PM: The Great Pine Nut Taste-Off

July 16, 2025 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Let your taste buds do the talking by helping RESEARCHERS identify which pine nut varieties are the most valuable at the great pine nut taste-off:

REGISTRATION REQUIRED: RSVP FOR THE EVENT

Location: Friends of the Inyo’s main office, 621 W Line St Ste 201, Bishop, CA 93514 (non-ADA accessible: two flights of stairs)
Researchers from the Pinyon Community Climate Action (PiCCA) Network want to know how environmental factors (e.g., elevation, temperature, precipitation, tree age) influence the flavor profiles of pine nuts and which varieties are preferred. Because we’re collecting data, participants would need to provide consent. Everyone will first complete an individual taste evaluation, and then we will have a group discussion about pine nuts and the broader role of foraged foods in today’s society.

All you need to do: Try five mysterious pine nut samples— each with their own flavor and texture! Besides the yummy pine nuts, refreshments will be provided to thank you for your time during the dinner hour and your feedback will be gathered as part of a community research project aimed at improving the resilience of pinyon juniper woodlands. You’ll help us learn how people experience the different pine nut varieties and get some tasty treats!

You must be over 18 and not have a peanut allergy to participate.
