Golden Trout Wilderness Meadow Restoration Backcountry Work-Week

July 8 - July 12

Free

Come join Friends of the Inyo and the USFS for a week of immersive restoration work in the Golden Trout Wilderness.

Where: Templeton Meadow, in the Golden Trout Wilderness of the Mt. Whitney Ranger District

When: July 8th-12th

What: Deconstructing and removing miles of defunct cattle enclosure- e.g., barbed wire fencing.

Why: This stretch of fence used to abide by grazing allotments, but is now infringing on the wilderness. We aim to restore the untrammeled, wild character of this remote meadow.

How: This will be a stock-supported project! While tools and supplies will be hauled in by mule, we will hike in approximately 12 miles to basecamp and spend our days pulling T-Posts, spooling barbed wire, and restoring impacted areas.

NOTE: This will be five days of very physical work, plus hiking in a high-elevation environment. Participants are in charge of packing their own gear, food, bear canister, and provisions. Backpacking experience is preferred.

Registration is very limited, so please only sign up if you are certain you can make the commitment.
