Celebrating Public Lands: Stories, Film, and Conversation with Josh Jackson, Chris Kam, and Brent Underwood
June 28, 2025 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Free

Join Friends of the Inyo for a FREE event at C5 Studios to celebrate and advocate for our public lands.
While our federal government is attacking public lands from every angle, threatening large-scale sell offs and ill conceived mining projects, we come together to share stories about why we love these places and what we do to protect them.

Josh Jackson is a writer, photographer, and speaker whose work champions the wild beauty and overlooked value of America’s public lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). He will share the release of his new book “The Enduring Wild: A Journey Into California’s Public Lands“. Several of Josh’s prints will be shown and available through silent auction.

Oscar qualifying cinematographer Chris Kam came to the Eastern Sierra by way of Cerro Gordo and fell in love with the high desert landscape of the Inyo Mountains. When a mining company threatened to destroy Conglomerate Mesa in search of gold, Chris jumped into action. He will screen his new film “Hole in the Mountain: Saving Conglomerate Mesa“.
Cerro Gordo owner Brent Underwood has been living in a ghost town and sharing it’s stories since 2020. He wrote a book about his experiences, “Ghost Town Living: Mining for Purpose and Chasing Dreams at the Edge of Death Valley“. Brent will join Josh and Chris in conversation.
A silent auction will be held for Josh’s photographs and items from Cerro Gordo. All proceeds from the auction and a portion of the book sales will be donated to Friends of the Inyo to support their work protecting public lands.
