SUMMARY:Bodie Mountain Summit Hike
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, July 17th at 8am\nJoin Jora Fogg \, Wendy Schneider and Lynn Boulton from the Bodie HIlls Conservation Partnership for a spectacular hike with panoramic views of Mono Lake and the Bodie Hills. Hikers will learn about the plants and species that call this area home\, and the coalition’s efforts to protect the area from industrial open pit gold mining. This high elevation landscape is important habitat for the Bi-state Sage Grouse\, pronghorn\, and many other species. \nWe will be meeting at the Bridgeport Ranger Station at 8am to carpool. The trailhead is about an hour from Bridgeport\, and we anticipate we will be back to the parking lot by 4pm. \nAttendees should pack for a 4 mile (estimated) hike at high elevation and enough water for the whole day (there are no water sources).  The hike starts at 9\,000 feet and goes to the summit at 10\,000′. The route is from the parking area and goes up the drainage to the west and then turns south to the summit. This is an off-trail cross country route. \nThe trailhead coordinates are located at 38.23801315634907\, -119.0714711972078 \nSpace is limited. Please fill out the mandatory RSVP form below \n \nAll events on public lands are subject to approval by their respective land management agencies\, and are not guaranteed in location\, number of participants\, or activity until permits are finalized.  \n  \n\nWe are no longer accepting RSVPs for this event. If you would like to join the wait list please email admin@friendsoftheinyo.org. We will be hosting another  event to celebrate fall in the Bodie Hills on October 9th. We hope you can join us at the Fall Colors of the Bodie Hills.\n\nAbout Jora: Jora Fogg joined Friends of the Inyo in April 2014. As the lead on public lands policy\, Jora comments on public lands projects across Inyo and Mono Counties\, and leads exploration outings to highlight special places in the Eastern Sierra and California Desert. Jora grew up and went to college in Washington State\, moving to California in 2004. Previously she spent four years in Colorado with Bird Conservancy of the Rockies as a biologist managing state and park service bird monitoring programs. She lives in June Lake with her husband and daughter.  Jora enjoys time “naturalizing” (especially birding)\, skiing\, hiking\, and cycling. \n  \n \nAbout Wendy: A native of East Tennessee\, Wendy began her political work in Washington\, D.C. where she participated in campaigns and lobbying efforts on behalf of Al Gore\, Handgun Control and U.S. PIRG.  Environment California recruited her to run their Los Angeles fundraising office\, so she moved out West\, became a lawyer\, founded and ran a non-profit benefiting street children in India\, and discovered the Eastern Sierra.
