Conglomerate Mesa

Industrial Mining on Death Valley’s Doorstep

Conglomerate Mesa is a beautiful landscape covered in Joshua trees, pinyon pine and juniper, and is designated California Desert National Conservation land.

Friends of the Inyo leads a coalition focused on Conglomerate Mesa’s protection.  Corporate plans would make this the first roadless area in California targeted for an open pit gold mine under newly relaxed Federal management priorities. Our efforts 8 years ago averted development by a different company, but the area is once again under threat for speculative drilling.

Our strategy includes professional legal representatives holding decision makers accountable to Management Plans, State regulations, and Federal environmental laws.

Greetings from soggy Yosemite…does last night’s bill passage afford any protection for Conglomerate Mesa–or begin a legislative conversation about it?

Sincerely, Sharon
