SUMMARY:Naturaleza\, Conectividad y Crédito (Nature Connectivity and Credit) – A Latino Conservation Week Event!
DESCRIPTION:Many national parks now require entry fees to be paid via credit or debit card. With access to nature—a costly affair—already a challenge for Latinos\, cashless access to national parks represents still another barrier for ubanked Latinos to enjoy the great outdoors. In response to this\, Friends of the Inyo is hosting a FREE bilingual outreach event called “Naturaleza\, Conectividad y Crédito” (“Nature\, Connectivity and Credit”) in Bishop on July 15\, as part of Latino Conservation Week. In partnership with AltaOne Federal Credit Union\, Naturaleza\, Conectividad y Crédito aims to help local Latinos and others apply for credit to facilitate access to national parks and other opportunities to which credit can open the door. \nOther event partners include the U.S. National Park Service\, Cerro Coso Community College\, Whitebark Institute\, Eastern Sierra Interpretive Association\, Farmworker Institute of Education and Leadership Development (FIELD)\, Mammoth Recycling/Bishop Waste\, the Bureau of Land Management\, and we welcome other organizations that might want to participate. \nThe event will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. on the parking lot of AltaOne Federal Credit Union\, 462 N. Main Street. It is FREE and open to the public\, Latino or not: We want everyone who is unbanked to come and apply for credit with AltaOne! There will be raffles and FREE FOOD: Two tacos to each of the first 200 attendees\, courtesy of AltaOne. \n \n\nNaturaleza\, Conectividad y Crédito also aims to educate Eastern Sierra Nevada Latinos about how to navigate national park websites for making camping reservations\, checking weather and road conditions\, etc.; how to recreate responsibly in nature\, practicing The 7 Principles of Leave No Trace (www.lnt.org); how to strengthen their homes against wildfire; how to recycle trash properly; how to register for classes at Cerro Coso College; how to apply for available local jobs; and more. There will be food\, music\, opportunity drawings\, and lots of networking designed to help Latinos and other underrepresented communities learn how to better enjoy nature and be better stewards of our scenic lands. \n\nLocation: 462 N. Main St.\, Bishop\, CA 93514 \n\nDownload our English flier. The flier tells you what you need to bring to apply for credit with AltaOne.\nDownload our Spanish flier. Nuestra hoja informativa  indica lo que tiene que traer para solicitar crédito con AltaOne.\n\nInterested exhibitors are encouraged to contact Louis Medina at Friends of the Inyo by writing to Louis@friendsoftheinyo.org by July 10 at the latest.

Half-day trips will max out at 15 participants. Full-day trips will max out at 20 participants. Trip leaders will be in touch with registrants in their specific groups to provide details about what to bring (e.g.\, high-clearance vehicles – if needed – depending on the destination\, lunch\, binoculars\, etc.). \nThe fun will begin and end at the parking lot of the Museum of Western Film History\, at 701 S. SUMMARY:Conglomerate Mesa Mineral Exploration Report with Pete Dronkers - FREE
DESCRIPTION:Join Friends of the Inyo and the Conglomerate Mesa Coalition for a virtual (Zoom) evening presentation by Pete Dronkers\, author of Conglomerate Mesa Mineral Exploration: Potential Future Mining Scenarios and Impacts. This report is an in-depth analysis of what a large-scale mining operation would look like at Conglomerate Mesa. The report has been peer-reviewed and examines the geology of the region to better characterize the size and scope of a future mine\, as well as its potential long-term environmental liabilities\, by comparing its geology to similar existing mines in Nevada.  \nPete Dronkers has over a decade of experience analyzing the environmental impact and long-term risk associated with the hard-rock mining and oil and gas sectors\, primarily in Alaska\, Nevada\, Colorado\, Arizona\, and New Mexico. Working for organizations such as Earthworks\, Northern Alaska Environmental Center\, and Environment Nevada has given him a deep understanding of both mining and desert ecosystems. He has worked with expert geochemists\, hydrologists\, geophysicists\, and environmental toxicologists to file technical comments\, appeals\, and develop models related to environmental performance\, primarily at proposed mine sites. \nPete will give a presentation on the report followed by an opportunity to ask questions. This is a FREE event and everyone is welcome. \nDownload the report by clicking here or on the image. \n
