Bookkeeper/Finance Manager
Overview – The Finance Manager is responsible for the day-to-day financial operations of Friends of the Inyo. Responsibilities include billing, taxes, contract management, investment management, accounting, payroll and benefit administration
Much of this work is currently conducted in cooperation with FOI’s Office Manager. As described, the Finance Manager is a part time position with an approximate weekly commitment 20 hrs/wk to 32 hrs/wk.

Job Duties by Area:
Financial –
- Maintain and use an accounting system (currently Quickbooks for Nonprofits linked to GiftWorks donor database). Make system improvements as necessary.
- Ensure federal, state and local taxes and employment compliance (EDD, Worker’s Comp). Coordinate with outside accountant to produce financial statements and tax returns.
- Maintain and reconcile bank accounts.
- Accounts Receivable including billing and contract management.
- Prepare monthly reports of income, balance sheet and projected expenses for review by FOI Finance Committee.
- Maintain investment strategy.
- Implement and maintain cost-control policy – quarterly review of expenses and scan for potential savings.
- Work with Finance Committee and FOI Executive Director to produce annual budgets each December, production of out year budget forecasting and real-time accounting of expenditures by program/project/grant.
- Generate financial reports as requested for events, membership activities and annual report.
- Manage grant financial tracking and reporting.
- Perform other functions as required.
Human Resources
- Implement and maintain a staff time reporting and payroll system. Identify and implement improvements to current system.
- Ensure that the organizational health care benefit policy and worker’s compensation insurance is cost-effective and sufficient.
- Maintain files of I9, W2 and other required employee forms.
- Perform other functions as required.
Organizational
- Participate, as required or time permits, in FOI external activities – Exploration, Preservation and Stewardship activities – as well as FOI governance activities such as Board meetings.
Office Location – Position based out of FOI Office in Bishop, California
Qualifications
- Demonstrated accounting/bookkeeping/payroll experience in Quickbooks (familiarity with non-profit accounting a plus).
- Strong professional references substantiating history of self-direction, positive work ethic, and commitment to maintaining a healthy work environment.
- History of community engagement and commitment to sustaining public lands and healthy communities.
Salary & Benefits
Salary dependent upon experience with potential for a full-time salaried position with benefits dependent upon performance and FOI needs.
