DESCRIPTION:What is Flash Foxy?\nThe Flash Foxy Trad Fest is a three-day climbing event for women and genderqueer climbers of all ages. Though we’re no strangers to hosting events on the East Side\, this is our first year in Mammoth Lakes\, CA\, and we’re excited to be on the East Side for an epic weekend of community building\, skill sharing\, and play! We hope that the Flash Foxy Trad Fest will not only reach experienced climbers but also provide a safe space for beginner climbers to come and learn more about all that climbing has to offer.\nIf you want to learn more about the festival or buy tickets\, visit Flash Foxy’s website here. \n  \nSunday Stewardship Project\nFriends of the Inyo and the Town of Mammoth Lakes are partnering with Flash Foxy to host a stewardship event on Sunday morning. This volunteer event is open to members of the public and will focus on invasive plant removal and trail maintenance on the new SHARP trails. The stewardship projects are sponsored by Arc’teryx! Volunteers will meet by 9:00 AM on Sunday\, September 14th at Mammoth Creek Park for coffee and breakfast treats before heading off to project sites.\n

DESCRIPTION:Calling all volunteers!\nThis popular trail has gotten overgrown and needs a little love. Because the loop is 3 miles\, we can’t get this project done alone! With enough volunteers\, we can restore this trail to its proper glory in just one day.\n📅 Date: Saturday\, August 30th\, 2025 \n⌚ Time: 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM \n📍 Location:  Park at the day use parking lot on the East Shore of the lake. Volunteers will meet here to discuss the plan for the day and enjoy some coffee and donuts from Mammoth Coffee Roasting Co.  \n🎒 What to Bring: \n\nclosed-toe Shoes you’re comfortable walking up to 3 miles in\nLong pants and long sleeves\nSun protection (sun screen\, hat\, sun shirt\, sunglasses)\nAt least 1 liter of water – more is always better!\nPlenty of snacks and/or lunch\n\n🔨 we will provide all tools\, work gloves\, and eye protection. We will also have coffee for volunteers in the morning and snacks and refreshments for the day.

SUMMARY:Join us for a Volunteer Wilderness Week in the White Mountains!
DESCRIPTION:Join Friends of the Inyo and the Forest Service for a Wilderness Week in the White Mountains from August 21 – 24\, 2025!\nWhat? Volunteers will build low-tech stream restoration structures in Davis Creek Meadow and perform trail maintenance on Boundary Peak Trail. \n \nWho? Inyo County locals or those from further afield are welcome to join this project. The project will include hiking and manual labor\, so volunteers should be have good physical fitness and be generally comfortable with high elevation and physically strenuous work. \nWhat do volunteers need to bring? FOI and USFS will provide all tools\, but volunteers need to bring their own camping equipment (tent\, sleeping bag\, sleeping pad\, etc.)\, food\, cookware\, and appropriate clothing. Clothing includes sturdy hiking boots\, long sleeves\, long pants\, and appropriate gear for potential rain. Waterproof boots are strongly recommended for working on streams. Bear-resistant cans for storage will be provided. We will walk for 1.5 miles and gain 500 feet in elevation before returning to the trailhead. The hike should take about 3.5 hours and total 3 miles round-trip. Please bring snacks\, water\, layers\, and any other essentials for a hike in the mountains.  \nThe Sierra Foraging Walk brings many like-minded individuals together to discuss edible and medicinal uses of plants. Late summer is the time for mushrooms and berries such as gooseberry\, elderberries\, rose hips and currant. Fall is when pine nuts and sunflower seeds are plentiful. SUMMARY:Join us for a Volunteer Wilderness Week in the Golden Trout Wilderness!
DESCRIPTION:Join Friends of the Inyo and the Forest Service for a Wilderness Week in the Golden Trout Wilderness from July 24-28\, 2025!\nWhat? Volunteers will work on dismantling obsolete fencing and other debris in Brown Meadow\, located along a tributary of the South Fork of the Kern River. Volunteers hike in 3.5 miles on 7/24 and spend 4 nights camped along Brown Meadow\, a scenic and historic area in the Golden Trout Wilderness\, home of the California state fish\, the Golden Trout. Tools and some supplies will be packed in by mules before the project. \n \nWhy? Fences were constructed to manage livestock when the area had active grazing up to 2000. The fences have been deteriorating in the wilderness and are in non-functional condition. This debris not only impairs the area’s wilderness character and impedes recreational access to the creek\, but it also presents an entrapment hazard for wildlife. \nWho? Inyo County locals or those from further afield are welcome to join this project. The project will include hiking and manual labor\, so volunteers should be have good physical fitness and be generally comfortable with high elevation and physically strenuous work. \nWhat do volunteers need to bring? FOI and USFS will provide all tools\, but volunteers need to bring their own camping equipment (tent\, sleeping bag\, sleeping pad\, etc.)\, food\, cookware\, and appropriate clothing. Clothing includes sturdy hiking boots\, long sleeves\, long pants\, and appropriate gear for potential rain. Waterproof boots are strongly recommended for working in the meadow. Because we’re collecting data\, participants would need to provide consent. Everyone will first complete an individual taste evaluation\, and then we will have a group discussion about pine nuts and the broader role of foraged foods in today’s society.\n\n\nAll you need to do: Try five mysterious pine nut samples— each with their own flavor and texture! SUMMARY:Sierra Forager: A Free Guided Plant Identification Walk
DESCRIPTION:Come join White Mountain District Trail Ambassador\, Jean\, on a hike up East Fork of Rock Creek where you’ll learn about\, and potentially find\, some medicinal-edibile flora.\nDetails\nWhat: Learn about conscious foraging of plants\, their edibile and medicinal properties\, and sustainable practices to preserve our wild kingdom.  \nMeeting Location: Park at the East Fork Trailhead Day Use loop (Rock Creek Sno-Park). 37.492762\, -118.717218. \nHike Duration: 9 AM – 12:30 PM on Saturday\, July 12th.  \nLogistics: Our hike will begin at just over 8\,000ft above sea level. We will walk for 1.5 miles and gain 500 feet in elevation before returning to the trailhead. The hike should take about 3.5 hours and total 3 miles round-trip. Please bring snacks\, water\, layers\, and any other essentials for a hike in the mountains.  \nThe Sierra Foraging Walk brings many like-minded individuals together to discuss edible and medicinal uses of plants. We discuss sustainable harvesting\, intelligent foraging\, food/medicine preparations and cultural traditions. Wild foraging not only teaches us about the rich and diverse plant life\, but the intelligence of the earth we live on. Plants have an intuitive knowing that a cycle has ended\, a new one is germinating\, and what nutrients are needed to thrive. Plants teach us that change\, rebirth\, and evolution are all part of life. \nThere is certainly a seasonality for harvesting wild flowers\, herbs and mushrooms. Spring is the season for fresh young greens such as nettles\, dandelion\, thistle and mugwort. Early summer is a time of abundant blossoms of onion\, elderflower\, rose\, pennyroyal and fireweed. Late summer is the time for mushrooms and berries such as gooseberry\, elderberries\, rose hips and currant. Fall is when pine nuts and sunflower seeds are plentiful. Winter is a bit more sparse\, but you can look for tree bark and pine needles. \n\nRegistration\nEach individual participant must register to attend. Participants under 18 must have a parent/guardian register for them. Registration is\, and always will be\, completely free! Optional donations support our continued stewardship and policy programming.  \nRegister here!\nImportant considerations:\n\nAll ages welcome!\nThere is no running water at the hike location. There may be opportunities to filter water in the creek if you bring a water filter. Bring plenty of water and enough food or snacks to stay comfortable.\nWear sturdy shoes you’re comfortable walking in for several miles. \nWear sun protection – hat\, sun glasses\, sunscreen\, etc.\n\n \n

Project activities may include brushing and levelling the trail surface. Flow through nature-inspired yoga poses on the Pokonobe Marina’s deck. Nature Yoga will be happening 6 Friday mornings in a row\, starting on 7/11. \nDetails\n\nMeeting Location: Pokonobe Marina Deck. If it rains\, we will practice inside the Lodge.\nStart Time: Yoga starts at 8:00. Please arrive at least 10 minutes early so yoga can begin on time. \n\nNo registration required\, just show up!\nImportant considerations:\n\nAll ages welcome!\nPlease bring your own yoga mat and any props\nBring lots of water – it can get warm on the deck! \nThis event is complementary and open to all.
