SUMMARY:Oak Creek Bitterbrush Planting
DESCRIPTION:‘Tis the season…to plant bitterbrush! \nVolunteers plant bitterbrush near Convict Lake this November. Photo by Wendy Schneider\nJoin Friends of the Inyo\, the Fort Independence Indian Reservation\, the California Native Plants Society\, and the Inyo National Forest for an afternoon of planting native shrubs along the banks of Oak Creek. \nOak Creek was devastated by a fire and flood nearly a decade ago. Gloves and tools will be provided—just bring your own snacks\, water\, sun protection\, and closed-toed shoes.

SUMMARY:Conglomerate Mesa Exploration
DESCRIPTION:  \nNestled between the Inyo Mountains and Malpais Mesa Wildernesses\, Conglomerate Mesa is a Joshua tree\, pinyon- juniper studded roadless landscape which we have been fighting to protect since 2008 when gold mining threats began to emerge there. Once again this high desert gem of public land is under attack from mining interests. We will venture out to Conglomerate and learn about the current project which proposes to drill seven exploratory drill sites to locate gold deposits.  Recently designated as California Desert National Conservation Land\, we will learn what is at stake and what this new designation could mean for protecting this place and its irreplaceable animals\, plants and history. \nCarpools will leave from Olancha and Lone Pine. Expect 2 hours driving time on rough dirt roads. Hiking time will be based on group interest and ability. \nPlease RSVP to Jora\, space is limited to 20 participants. This is co-led joint trip with CalWild policy expert Linda Castro. Photo by Todd Vogel.
