DESCRIPTION:It will be a serious Sunday stewardship day this coming Oct. 12th\, for anyone who cares to join the Keep Long Valley Green Coalition and Friends of the Inyo for a highway cleanup from 10 AM to 1 PM. \nIn order to have our beautiful Keep Long Valley Green sign on US 395 by Crowley Lake\, we have to clean up the area twice a year. Therefore\, before the snow flies\, (or at least before it sticks) join us for a volunteer trash cleanup. It’s a great way to give back on this iconic section of highway between Crowley Lake and McGee. \nTools\, safety gear\, and coffee/donuts will be provided. Participants will also be rewarded with free tickets for a raffle as thank you. DESCRIPTION:Join Friends of the Inyo\, the Eastern Sierra Land Trust\, the Sierra Nevada Alliance\, and other host sites throughout the Sierra Nevada for the Great Sierra River Cleanup (GSRC) on Saturday\, September 20th\, 2025. GSRC is a Sierra-wide watershed cleanup event coordinated by Sierra Nevada Alliance in collaboration with California’s Coastal Cleanup Day. In 2024\, 46\,201 volunteers removed 398\,654 pounds (199 tons) of trash from the Sierra Nevada waterways and across the state’s entire coastline. \nThis year\, we’ll be cleaning up the Artesian Wells in Bishop!\nRSVP HERE!*\n⌚9am – 12pm on Saturday\, September 20th\n📍Meet at the first Artesian Well South of Line St/Poleta Rd. GPS coordinates here\n🛠️All tools and PPE will be provided by Friends of the Inyo and ESLT\n☀️Volunteers should bring plenty of water and snacks. You should also wear closed toed shoes and sun protective clothing. We will be using cars to shuttle between sites\, so ability to walk long distances is not necessary. Please arrive a few minutes early.\nThe Trail is 0.5 miles one way with 200ft of elevation gain and loss. There will be several stops for sketching! \nParticipants will be provided with a sketch book\, pencils\, pens\, and colored pencils. Feel free to bring your own art materials as well! \nParticipants can continue along their hike at the farthest point or return to the parking lot with the guide. \n\nRegistration\nEach individual participant must register to attend. SUMMARY:2025 Flash Foxy Trad Fest\, Mammoth Lakes
DESCRIPTION:What is Flash Foxy?\nThe Flash Foxy Trad Fest is a three-day climbing event for women and genderqueer climbers of all ages. Though we’re no strangers to hosting events on the East Side\, this is our first year in Mammoth Lakes\, CA\, and we’re excited to be on the East Side for an epic weekend of community building\, skill sharing\, and play! We hope that the Flash Foxy Trad Fest will not only reach experienced climbers but also provide a safe space for beginner climbers to come and learn more about all that climbing has to offer.\nIf you want to learn more about the festival or buy tickets\, visit Flash Foxy’s website here. \n  \nSunday Stewardship Project\nFriends of the Inyo and the Town of Mammoth Lakes are partnering with Flash Foxy to host a stewardship event on Sunday morning. This volunteer event is open to members of the public and will focus on invasive plant removal and trail maintenance on the new SHARP trails. The stewardship projects are sponsored by Arc’teryx! Volunteers will meet by 9:00 AM on Sunday\, September 14th at Mammoth Creek Park for coffee and breakfast treats before heading off to project sites.\n

With enough volunteers\, we can restore this trail to its proper glory in just one day.\n📅 Date: Saturday\, August 30th\, 2025 \n⌚ Time: 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM \n📍 Location:  Park at the day use parking lot on the East Shore of the lake. Volunteers will meet here to discuss the plan for the day and enjoy some coffee and donuts from Mammoth Coffee Roasting Co.  \n🎒 What to Bring: \n\nclosed-toe Shoes you’re comfortable walking up to 3 miles in\nLong pants and long sleeves\nSun protection (sun screen\, hat\, sun shirt\, sunglasses)\nAt least 1 liter of water – more is always better!\nPlenty of snacks and/or lunch\n\n🔨 we will provide all tools\, work gloves\, and eye protection. We will also have coffee for volunteers in the morning and snacks and refreshments for the day.

SUMMARY:Join us for a Volunteer Wilderness Week in the White Mountains!
DESCRIPTION:Join Friends of the Inyo and the Forest Service for a Wilderness Week in the White Mountains from August 21 – 24\, 2025!\nWhat? Volunteers will build low-tech stream restoration structures in Davis Creek Meadow and perform trail maintenance on Boundary Peak Trail. \n \nWho? Inyo County locals or those from further afield are welcome to join this project. The project will include hiking and manual labor\, so volunteers should be have good physical fitness and be generally comfortable with high elevation and physically strenuous work. \nWhat do volunteers need to bring? FOI and USFS will provide all tools\, but volunteers need to bring their own camping equipment (tent\, sleeping bag\, sleeping pad\, etc.)\, food\, cookware\, and appropriate clothing. Clothing includes sturdy hiking boots\, long sleeves\, long pants\, and appropriate gear for potential rain. Waterproof boots are strongly recommended for working on streams. Bear-resistant cans for storage will be provided. DESCRIPTION:Come join White Mountain District Trail Ambassador\, Jean\, on a hike up East Fork of Rock Creek where you’ll learn about\, and potentially find\, some medicinal-edibile flora.\nDetails\nWhat: Learn about conscious foraging of plants\, their edibile and medicinal properties\, and sustainable practices to preserve our wild kingdom.  \nMeeting Location: Park at the East Fork Trailhead Day Use loop (Rock Creek Sno-Park). 37.492762\, -118.717218. \nHike Duration: 9 AM – 12:30 PM on Saturday\, August 2nd.  \nLogistics: Our hike will begin at just over 8\,000ft above sea level. We will walk for 1.5 miles and gain 500 feet in elevation before returning to the trailhead. The hike should take about 3.5 hours and total 3 miles round-trip. Please bring snacks\, water\, layers\, and any other essentials for a hike in the mountains.  \nThe Sierra Foraging Walk brings many like-minded individuals together to discuss edible and medicinal uses of plants. We discuss sustainable harvesting\, intelligent foraging\, food/medicine preparations and cultural traditions. Plants have an intuitive knowing that a cycle has ended\, a new one is germinating\, and what nutrients are needed to thrive. Plants teach us that change\, rebirth\, and evolution are all part of life. \nThere is certainly a seasonality for harvesting wild flowers\, herbs and mushrooms. Spring is the season for fresh young greens such as nettles\, dandelion\, thistle and mugwort. Early summer is a time of abundant blossoms of onion\, elderflower\, rose\, pennyroyal and fireweed. Late summer is the time for mushrooms and berries such as gooseberry\, elderberries\, rose hips and currant. Fall is when pine nuts and sunflower seeds are plentiful. Winter is a bit more sparse\, but you can look for tree bark and pine needles. \nRegistration\nEach individual participant must register to attend. Participants under 18 must have a parent/guardian register for them. Registration is\, and always will be\, completely free! There may be opportunities to filter water in the creek if you bring a water filter. DESCRIPTION:This popular path for locals is in a dangerous state of disrepair and we’ve been working to replace it section-by-section over multiple seasons. We need volunteers – no experience needed – to help us install the next segment.\n📅 Date: Saturday\, August 2nd\, 2025 \n⌚ Time: 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM \n📍 Location:  Park at the Sno-Park parking area. Volunteers will meet here to discuss the plan for the day and enjoy some coffee before carpooling closer to the work site. \n🎒 What to Bring: \n\nWork boots or other durable\, preferably waterproof\, shoes\nLong pants\, ideally a durable canvas or denim\nSun protection (sun screen\, hat\, sun shirt\, sunglasses)\nAt least 1 liter of water – more is always better!\nPlenty of snacks and lunch\n\n🔨 FOI will provide all tools\, work gloves\, and eye protection.
